So... who runs the Academy??
Hi, I'm Karen,
Like many others I chose to become a dog groomer because I loved being with dogs. Their energy, their love, their company, plus the thought of self employment and the promise of independence & control that implied..(hmm).
So aged 28, in 2009, I left my career in the Aviation Industry and trained to become a groomer.
I went through the same rites of passage that many new groomers still experience today - the dodgy grooms, the price chasing flaky clients, the crippling imposter syndrome..
But slowly I grew a fully booked dog grooming business and expanded with regards to staff and premises in a matter of 3 years (whilst welcoming my first child along the way).
Then the inevitable happened. I burned out!!!
Within a few years, I had grown my business to a stage where I simply could no longer cope with it's demands. From the grooming to the cleaning to the admin to marketing.. it was all too much, especially as a new mum with family commitments to juggle.
My passion for my business and grooming was dwindling fast! The tasks to get it back on track seemed overwhelming and I wasn't sure where to start. Customers frustrated me and I began to look for the exit!!

The Comeback..
So, I enrolled onto a Mathematics degree with the Open University with a view to leaving grooming & becoming a teacher. However, the unexpected happened! My studies didn't help me find a path out of grooming. They helped see reasons to stay!
I learned about pricing structures and business finance, I swapped pure math modules for business ones and gradually educated myself in ways to improve my grooming business.
After two years of my degree however, life decided to "life" itself, as it occasionally does and the pandemic hit. Suddenly I was at home with a toddler, a 7 year old to home school and a mum with an Alzheimer's diagnosis. My degree was halted as I simply couldn't study and juggle my new normal in 2020.
However, when normality resumed and my dog grooming business could resume, things were very different!
My studies meant I now ran my dog grooming business with full clarity and control. I had the financial knowledge to draw a healthy salary from my grooming business, (without the need to constantly sell add-ons), I upheld boundaries and policies with my clients with warmth and professionalism and most importantly I regained my love of grooming.
The Grooming Goddess Academy is an embodiment of the changes I made and the vehicle I now use to educate and support other female groomers to gain the success and balance I created for myself.
Since then, I have trained to be a coach, spoken at industry events such as MasterGroom and the Pet Pro Expo, taught students at grooming colleges about the business of dog grooming and welcomed over 200 women inside the doors of The Grooming Goddess Academy membership during our first year of trading.
My seasonal podcast "The Dog Groomers' 2026 Reset" was highly acclaimed by Colin Taylor and the Academy has featured in Total Grooming Magazine several times with a front cover in June 2025.

Our Story so far....
January 2025
The Grooming Goddess Academy officially opened its doors on January 7th, 2025!
Back then, the membership included just two mindset lessons, a couple of templates, and the very first version of what is now a 2 module pricing course called "Price Like a Goddess". By the end of that first month, 30 incredible groomers had joined us, and we’re thrilled to say 24 of them are still members, over 1 year later.
February 2025
We smashed through our first big milestone! 50 members strong and growing fast!
May 2025
The Academy proudly sponsored 3rd prize at the Style To Rescue event, and membership soared past 100 amazing members.
I also had the privilege of being interviewed on two brilliant podcasts - School Hours CEO and The Pet Accountant.
June 2025
Each month, our content library, membership numbers and guest expert lineup grew. We welcomed fantastic contributors including Lisa Hart, Paula Bryan, Vicky Clarke from The Pet Accountant, Romany Youell - The Finance Woman and more.
June also brought one of our proudest moments. The Grooming Goddess Academy featured on the front cover of Total Grooming Magazine!

July 2025
The Grooming Goddess Academy secured a deal with the best in the business: "Shake Your Tail" booking software and started a business relationship that allows GGA members amazing discounts.
Founded by David, the son of groomers, "Shake your Tail" was such an exciting company to partner with as our go-to software, as he really does understand exactly what groomers need. The Academy hosts an amazing software walkthrough by David and all members are fully supported if they decide to switch or sign up.
In July, I also delivered my first in-person seminar at Mastergroom!
After hundreds of webinars, stepping in front of a room of real people and connecting face-to-face was something truly special and I loved every second of it.
August 2025
We welcomed Lauren Murray to the team as our freelance social media and Canva contributor. Inside Lauren’s Lab, she now shares monthly content and design templates exclusively for members.
August also brought two powerhouse guest experts, Dr. Sophie Bell, with her masterclass on Senior Dogs in the Salon, and Krystal Wilson, a money mindset coach featured in Forbes Magazine, who led an empowering Money Mindset Workshop for our members.
October 2025
Karen hosted The Business Reset Seminar for established groomers and the feedback was just wonderful. Thank you all for your kind words and energy!
November 2025
Our online event, “Price Like A Grooming Goddess” week in early Nov, welcomed 77 female UK groomers who took charge of their finances and pricing and left the week feeling empowered to start 2026 with financial clarity & control. (All now available inside our 2 "Price Like A Goddess" modules for members).
Karen also spoke at the Pet Pro Expo conference in Birmingham - an event for Pet industry professionals in the UK.
December 2025
Vet & Groomer, Dr Sophie Bell confirmed she will be joining the Grooming Goddess Academy team in 2026 as a regular monthly contributor.
(Doors re-opened to new members on Boxing Day 2025 for a 10 day window, increasing our membership numbers by 42% and giving us the best start to 2026 we could have possibly wished for).

It's started better than we could have ever wished for, with an amazing opening window, a well received seminar at Capel Manor College for Karen, and new projects on the horizon.. Stay tuned!
