THE GROOMING GODDESS GUIDE TO A SUCCESSFUL DOG GROOMING BUSINESS!

Attracting Dog Grooming Clients in 2026!

Why “Just a Facebook Page” Isn’t Enough for Your Dog Grooming Business in 2025

When I first entered the dog grooming industry back in 2009, the world looked very different.
No website.
No Google Business Profile.
No fancy branding or funnel strategy.

I had a van with signage, dropped leaflets through doors, ran a tiny advert in the local paper, and relied heavily on word-of-mouth. I did technically have a Facebook page… but let's just say it was far from polished.

And guess what?
It didn’t matter.

There were barely any groomers around. Doodles weren’t yet taking over the UK. And in my area, there was only one other grooming salon within three miles.

Low competition meant my lack of professional marketing didn’t really hold me back.

Fast-forward to 2021 when I reopened my grooming business after becoming a mum and suddenly:

✅ Groomers everywhere
✅ Doodle world domination
✅ One-to-one grooming no longer unique
✅ Five groomers within a one-mile radius of my house

The industry had completely evolved.

Competition skyrocketed.
Owner expectations increased.
And simply “being a groomer” wasn’t enough anymore.

Modern Grooming Businesses Require Modern Business Thinking

If we want to attract committed, respectful, loyal clients, we need to stop just dipping our toes in the business pool and dive in with both feet, head first, goggles on.

You will always see posts in Facebook grooming groups:

“I just shared my page locally and I’m fully booked!”

Good for them. Truly.

But that experience has no bearing on whether that tactic will work for you.

Why?

Because their success could hinge on:

  • Entering a town crying out for groomers

  • A local groomer recently closing

  • Existing experience in marketing or sales

  • Timing and luck

  • A less saturated area

Their circumstances are not yours.
And copying someone else’s random tactic isn’t a marketing strategy, it’s a hope strategy.

The Real Customer Journey in a Grooming Business

“Good marketing brings them through the door once.
Good experience brings them back again.”

Modern pet owners expect professional businesses.
And that means creating a proper customer journey from first discovery to second appointment and beyond.

Here’s what that journey looks like:

✅ Social Media Visibility

Great! Essential even, but surface-level. An introduction, not a business foundation.

✅ Website & Google Business Profile

Static information. Trust-building. Search visibility.
Not algorithm-dependent!!!!!  Essential for real-world discoverability.

✅ Professional Booking & Communication

Clear instructions. Software optional but preferred.
Polished and friendly. Easy to follow.

✅ First Impression in the Salon

This is where it all relies on you!! Time for some Gold star customer service!
This is where repeat clients are created. (An important part of any dog grooming business. We need repeat clients not one minute wonders!)

Think of It Like Childcare…

Would you leave your child in a nursery that:

❌ Only had a Facebook page
❌ Advertised via playground leaflets
❌ Booked via text message
❌ Had no official website or paperwork

Nope!! Of course not. It shows literally no investment in their business. If they can't invest in themselves, why would someone invest in them?

You’d expect:

✅ Website
✅ Registration forms
✅ Policies & professionalism
✅ Licensed premises
✅ Clear communication

Professional hallmarks build trust.

Dog owners feel the same.
They’re handing over their family member.

They want reassurance too.

You're a Groomer and a Business Owner

I know many groomers entered this industry to work with dogs, not spreadsheets, branding, or marketing strategies.

But if you're self-employed?

You are a business owner, sorry to break it to you, and ignoring that side limits your success.

Being a brilliant groomer won’t help if no one can find you, trust you, or book with you easily.

To stand out, you must rise above the crowd not blend into it.

The “I just have a Facebook page” approach isn’t enough anymore, not if you want:

✨ Financial stability
✨ High-quality clients
✨ A fully booked schedule
✨ Professional respect
✨ A business that grows instead of struggles

Competition is fiercer than ever, your marketing presence and customer attraction strategies must be too!
