The Princess Era
Apr 25, 2026
I’m okay to admit that at 45 years old I was raised in a world, where the quiet, demure girl who asked for nothing..?
She won. She was praised. She was the role model we were given to aspire to.
The Disney princesses like Cinderella who scrubbed the floors had the happy ending, and the traits of wanting more or being in any way demanding, were given to the ugly sisters.
Even poor Ariel, was punished for wanting legs by having her voice taken away.
Ambition has a price, girls!! Know your place!
The messages were subtle at times, but the underlying lesson was: stay modest, don’t want more, don’t be greedy, be happy with what you have and that’s how life will work out for you. Someday your Prince will come. You just have to wait.
What a pile of BS.
I’m so happy to see my daughter being brought up around a new generation of female characters like Elsa And Moana who know what they want and go and get it.
(Although, I’m not sure as a parent, I'll survive the kick-ass boss child I seem to be raising! 😂)
After a lifetime of conditioning, is it any wonder, we as female business owners and dog groomers struggle to confidently ask for more?
And ask for too much?? God forbid, succeed?
That has a price!
Who does she think she is??
She’s got too big for her boots.
I bet her husband pays for that car.
When did we start believing that our ambition & success needs permission from others?
-------------------------------
I’m here to say, nobody will give you permission.
Nobody but YOU!!
Waiting it out, hoping your customers will suddenly respect you more, just because you continue to be nice & provide a good service, is a long term game that benefits them, not you. It doesn’t end the way you hope it will.
They’re more than happy for you to stay exactly as you are.
So ladies, if you’re feeling like you want more??
It’s time to ask Ursula for your legs and when she asks for your voice, tell her to p%ss off.
Your ambition might have a price, but it will only be the loss of those that benefitted from you playing small.
YOU choose what YOU want from your business.
The quiet, demure, “hoping it all works out” era is over.
And if you want some help and cheerleading along the way??
You know what to do!
